Opening Plenary - The current picture of mental health and homelessness (Ludgate and ONLINE)
A Talk by Sophie Boobis and Dr Nick Maguire
About this Talk
Homeless Link's Head of Policy and Research will share findings from our recent research The Unhealthy State of Homelessness as they apply to mental health, presenting data captured from 31 audits carried out between 2015 and 2021. A key headline being that the number of people experiencing homelessness with diagnosed mental health conditions skyrocketed from 45% in 2014 to 82% in 2021, delegates will hear the details surrounding this.
Dr Nick Maguire will then reflect on this picture and what can be done to improve it, consider the barriers people experiencing homelessness may experience when trying to access mental health services, whether we need to rethink some core concepts to try and remove these barriers, and the importance of trauma and psychologically informed approaches.
