Addiction and mental health: Navigating dual diagnosis (Ludgate)
A Talk by Adam Clayton and Dan Ware
About this Talk
When talking about Mental Health and Homelessness, addiction can too often occur as a third pillar in the situation. our recent Unhealthy State of Homelessness Report showed 45% of those experiencing homelessness with diagnosed mental health conditions reported self-medicating with drugs or alcohol to cope with their mental health challenges.
This session will look at the challenges and interplay of dual diagnosis and homelessness, why it can prove so difficult navigating the system, and what can be done to improve this.
We will hear about the good practice happening in Greater Manchester, where GMMH NHS Foundation Trust deliver 7 homeless services offering a arrange of provisions for those who are rough sleeping or at risk of homelessness.
Delegates will learn about the multidisciplinary team and partnership approaches; hub and spoke delivery; and interagency working and approaches to consider system change.
We will then hear from the founder of Dual Diagnosis Anonymous UK (DDA), learning how it started; how it got funded; how it works; and people’s experience of DDA (including those experiencing homeless).
